design techniques that inspire us!

Silver Casting
What do sand, water, frozen peas and corn broom bristles have in common? They are all great molds for shaping molten silver! The silver forms the most organic of shapes with these everyday items, always promising a one-of-a-kind design.

Stone Setting
Many times our design inspiration begins with a stone. We personally choose each one from the lapidary based on its colour, shape and quality. Our choices are often influenced by the story that we see within the inclusions and variations of the stone.

Custom Design

Mokume Gane
Mokume Gane 木目金 (Moe-koo-may Gah-nay). What the heck is it? It’s an ancient Japanese metalworking technique, that takes multiple layers of contrasting coloured metals and fuses, forges, twists and carves them. This process results in a wood grain pattern. Mokume Gane translates to wood grain metal. It is most known for its use in adorning Samurai swords.

Metal Clay
Metal clay consists of tiny particles of silver mixed with an organic binder and water to form a clay-like medium. It can be sculpted into an infinite number of shapes and then kiln fired. After firing, the end result is a solid piece of silver.

Etching, Engraving & Embossing
We use the techniques of etching, engraving and embossing to cut patterns into silver. Etching cuts into the metal by means of a chemical solution, engraving uses sharp tools to mark the metal and embossing stamps a design on the surface of the metal so that it stands out in relief.
